Mark Naumovitz and Brian Nelli were fishing out of their kayaks last Friday off the coast of Florida near Palm Springs, when Nelli released something in the water. The two friends weren’t alone: trailing the pair was 13-foot hammerhead shark.
The shark wasn’t just around for a quick glance. Instead, Nelli and Naumovitz said the shark trailed them for two miles, even bumping their kayaks.
“It’s not really a huge thing to see sharks,” Naumovitz told the Sun-Sentinel. “But when you have a dorsal fin trailing you like its Jaws, it’s a different story.”
“It freaked me out a little,” Nelli said, adding, “I was reminding myself there was a shark in the water and not to fall out.”
So why was the shark following them? The pair had caught a 16-pound Mahi earlier in the day and it’s possible the shark smelled it.
